zing

Jamestown Revival "Revival"
maybe not for little tiny ears. no bad words or anything, but talks about kissin an stuff, you know.
IT'S REAL GOOD, THOUGH. they're good.

Wednesday night - happy # 17 M&M cookies

Thursday - Happy # 18 this band^^ SO GOOOOD.

TODAY.

the perfect last day of the month ever. seriously.

first of all, it has been delightfully rainy all day.

and this afternoon, i got glasses. weird.
weird weird.
for real, wild.

AND THEN.
i went on a date and it was wooooonderful (and literally forgot to take a single picture because i was that absorbed in conversation, which NEVER HAPPENS. i take pictures of everything. as you all know.)
and i probably shouldn't be this outwardly giddy in case it doesn't work out but i do not care. I LIKE HIM.

so Happy # 19 - Ice Skating with Ryan 'Baggins'.

he is a sweetheart. and i challenge you to find a better smile than his in all the world.
He has completely won me over, and I DON'T CARE who knows it.
stick a fork in me, i'm done.

#16 - Badminton

"As We Ran" by The National Parks
please hear the "We belong here with the Great Tetons" line. favorite part. I LOVE IDAHO. and i miss the teton valley, i do i do i do.

Today's Happy:
Badminton.

we were gettin' our game on, and we noticed that Curtis and alex were creepin.
so without even saying a word to each other, we started posing ridiculously. gave them a little photoshoot.

photo proof for mom that he is in fact taller than me ^

"black girl fashionista pose" was what Curtis shouted at us. Ryan struck this pose and i LOST it. resulting in my super attractive fat-neck laugh. hahaha

also,
"I'm glad you made it! sorry you got lost"
"oh no worries, we weren't lost."
"usually when you have to ask four separate people for directions, it means you're lost."
*followed by best smile ever*

you get the point, i'm smitten.

#15

Happy # 15 - finding winkey and smiley faces in the scriptures. the old testament is riddled with them, and it's amusing.

ITS ALLLIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!

and by "It" i mean the Central valley. the warm and slight moisture have the trees and weather all thinking it's mid- April.
STOP TRYING TO RUSH THINGS, PLANTS.

but i also kind of love it, because the flowers are blooming and the sky is so so so blue. so that's my happy for Saturday. #13 - all the new colors.

(yo, there are one and a half cuss words in this song, just a warning. )

DO YOU SEE THE BEE?! above!

sure doesn't look like February around here.

Last night was great.
*over dramatic teenage sigh*

infatuation.
"darling"
mexican food
90s cartoons
blushing for hours.
and that's all i'll say for now about that.

and then today happened. and about 95% of it was unplanned.
and it was great.

today's happy: this picture of Brodo Swaggins.
I laughed for almost a full twenty seconds.

Today was a whole bunch of smiling.
brought on by one particularly curly head.

In sunday school, curtis was HARD core creeping, and took this:

so flattering, i know.

and about 45 minutes later i received THIS picture via text message from Seth:

oh, the power of clip art and a witty mind.
as awkward and hyperbolic as this picture is though, i feel like it perfectly captures today's roller coaster.

and other than curly hair, and my failed attempts at coyness, today also consisted of cinnamon french toast, singing, driving, my cousin Ryan's homecoming talk, scaring my two year old cousin, sister missionaries, and planet earth.
so, it was good.

"Study Group"

Belt of Orion - the Belle Brigade

Yesterday evening i invited myself to the house of some friends to gossip and eat. was not expecting boys to be there. also was not expecting to see one boy in particular. little did i now that every Thursday is their study group. cause they all go to the same school. k.
well i'm not in school, i was just going to gossip and eat.
obviously, THAT didn't happen. instead i spent the entire night absent-mindedly clicking and typing to make myself look busy while the certain boy, brodo baggins, sat next to me for hours dutifully scratching down calculus homework. he was actually studying and i was doing this:

with a really concentrated face so maybe he would think i was like, doing taxes or something substantial.
remember 2002 when the internet took twenty minutes to load one page, so you'd go on MS paint and draw a bunch of lines and then fill them in with different colors and think it was a legitimate work of art? remember how you were 7, so it was totally normal?
I like to call this piece, "_____ is sitting next to me and this is my brain"
that's what i saved it as on my computer, anyway.

"The bunny in my brain goes hip hop, the sandal in my soul goes flip flop. hip hop flip flop." - Tawni from Even Stevens

Happy # 8

hi this is a sideways picture of a letter from Boyd K Packer, one of my idols.

I painted this picture of him in the air force, june of 2013. and i sent it to him, with a letter, a couple weeks ago. and yesterday he wrote back, thanking me and wishing me happiness and i am grateful.

and just for fun, this is my favorite painting of his; because he used to tend peacocks as a boy!! and who can say that?! very few. He's great.

Weasel kind of looks like me

Today after we got home from church, were just about to eat dinner when Jenae pointed out that she and i were wearing dresses of a similar style. and that our hair looked similar. i go to church several hours before them, so we don't get ready at the same time, so this was incidental. i said that i guess we kind of look alike. and she gasped and said she wanted to take awkward pictures showcasing our likeness. obviously i agreed. and we even roped mom into tromping out to the field with us. it was good fun, actually. and, Jenae's a babe.

please note that in the picture above, my legs are indeed paler than the dead weeds behind me.

trying really hard not to laugh:

also please note that earlier, while reading i rubbed the mascara off of one of my eyes. so my right eye looks bigger than my left in all of these photos. oh well.

attacking mom:

I like that we look similar, but still very different. i have pale skin with dark hair, dark eyes and darker lips.
She has a more color, and tans more easily, and has light hair, light eyes and lighter lips.

the next seven are a progression chart of me trying unsuccessfully not to laugh:

I have an oval face and she has a more heart shaped face.
i have a more pronounced brow, chin and shoulders, while her features are softer.
but i'm also taller ;) by juuust a hair.
I have my dad's nose and mouth, but my mom's kind of eyes and cheeks.
Jenae has my dad's kind of eyes and cheeks, but my mom's nose and mouth.

this is my new favorite picture of her ever:
PUT DIS EN DA YEARBOOK, JUHNAY

but seriously, she's gorgeous:

I love weasel.
even though she wakes me up every morning because she doesn't know how to whisper.

Happy #7 - the LDS Fresno, CA Temple
I get to see it every week. sometimes more, and today the sky behind it was SO blue!
our little temple is beautiful, and i'm grateful for it.

Hoar Frost

I WISH THIS PICTURE WOULD SHOW UP BIGGER.

Happy #6 - seeing this picture on the front page of my school website.
this is my second favorite city, Rexburg, ID.
I miss the Hoar Frost and the snow.

also,
dear teenage heart,
I warned you. and i triiiiied to keep you far away from this situation.
hoping this doesn't end badly.
- your brain.

Valentines Day

I set a "romantic" table for my parent's dinner tonight, complete with a bubbly waitress (yours truly) and some good ol' Frank as mood music in the background. I love seeing my parents be mushy. ha. and i love hearing them laugh together.
I am so lucky that I have these two as my parents.
I love their love story, and i'm honored to be a part of it.

Happy #5
Mom an Pop on Valentine's Day Evening

If i could have a Gerald N Lund kind of romance, that'd be greeeeeat.

first of all, my happy for today:
The Work and the Glory series. i just finished the fourth book (i started it literally in September, but then went away to school. then, i came home at Christmas and continued but then the kindest, nicest character was brutally murdered and i HATED THE WORLD BECAUSE OF IT. so i stopped reading it. until Monday. and i finished it this morning. and uglyface happy tears were had. how does Gerald write such PERFECTLY FLAWED COUPLES OVER AND OVER AGAIN?! seriously. Ben and Mary = perfect. Nathan and Lydia = perfect, Joshua and Jessica = tragic then happy, Joshua and Caroline = perfect, Melissa and Carl = wonderful then bitter then sweet, Derek and Rebecca = PERFECT, MATTHEW AND JENNY = PERFECT AND WONDERFUL and all that is good in the world is in them. okay, i'm done, i promise.)

and hi, my name is melissa hansen and i've never had an actual valentine. which is normal cause i'm a baby.
anyway, if around this time of year i had any kind of a boy who i thought maybe liked me,
i'd probably give him this:

also, if my old lady brain could tell my pubescent heart to shut up, that'd be great.
and if BYU-Idaho could NOT make me move every 3 1/2 months, i'd be okay with that.

literally the ONLY thing i don't like about my school is the track system. reason #231? relationships are real hard to get rollin when I'm CONSTANTLY moving. and away. and gone. and leaving. or going. or whatever.
i have a crush on you, you person, you.
but TRUUUUST me my old lady brain is trying everything it can to convince my teenage twitterpated self that this is not a good idea.
i kind of feel like i'm reading "The Monster at the End of this Book". to myself. and i'm begging me not to turn the pages BUT I KEEP TURNING THEM.

LISTEN TO ME SELF,
LISTEN GOOD
this is not a bad idea
but it's not a good one.
and this boy is good
but this timing is bad.
and you're just getting ahead of yourself....again.
SO STOP.

*ignores self*

I can HEAR my mother rolling her eyes some time in the next 24 hours when she reads this post.
i can literally hear her eyes rolling in my mind's ear.
ha.
and i can hear myself shouting from down the hall, "LOVE ME, MOM. HE'S DREAMY AND KIND."

The Picture Game

hi, my name is melissa hansen and i hate throwing parties. hahahaha. SERIOUSLY. i'm really really bad at hosting. i get anxious and i feel like i HAVE to ensure that everyone is ALWAYS doing something or having fun. so i automatically assume that down time = boredom. which is not always true, but i just get overwhelmed. But i force myself to invite people over once a year so that hopefully i can get better. never do. examples:
wienie roast of 2012
Game night 2013
tonight's fruit pajama pizza party.

it's a rough life, haha.
people always say they had fun, but i don't believe them, haha.
But i did legitimately have fun tonight, and i'm glad people came. shout out to mah main gurl Mal who got there early to help pump me up for human interaction, which i have lost all skills at. haha. AND she wore pajamas. she's perfect.

anyway, today's happy is the picture game.
I SWEAR my brother Donny invented it. YEARS AND YEARS AGO. maybe not invented, but coined it, made it a thing, whatever. I ACCREDIT IT TO HIM, AND IT IS CALLED THE PICTURE GAME AND NOTHING ELSE AND WE PLAYED IT FIRST. DEAL WITH IT, DANG IT.
anyway.
the picture game is like my favorite thing EVER because A) i can show off my wittiness. yes. B) you can find out a lot about people senses of humor from this game! C) i can show off my cartoon skills.
HA. so maybe i'm super conceited. judge me.
It's the best party game.
and today it made me happy. pretty sure i have 2 new abs from laughing so hard.

thank you Curtis for writing "That one time Ryan Nelson came to my house and i blushed..." as your opening sentence. #outed. hahaha truth. because i did definitely did take on a particular shade of pink when i answered the door and behind Curtis, Ryan Brodo Baggins Nelson was standing there with black berries, raspberries, his swoon worthy hair, and raised eyebrows. and i was wearing old lady pajamas and a giant red headband that held a card which read "CAT LITTER" (we were playing Hedbandz. i love that game.)

anyway. it was a good night despite the hostess anxiety, haha.
