Saturday after the swim, we all enjoyed the simpleness of each other's company. I loved it. we lounged, we talked about nothing and everything and laughed - a lot.
We missed Donny, Christine, Allison, Kent, Caleb and Jenna.
we sang, of course.
and sat under the apricot tree in the shade and laughed at the girls throwing sponge ball things at each other, and we have thrown a few ourselves...and we played with the adorable babies
We also indulged in a few rounds of Cub! Kub? well, I'm gonna call it Kub because it's Danish and for some reason i picture it spelled with a K because it's foreign...
We learned the game from our friend Brent like four (or five?) years ago and we love it!
I have no idea how o explain it other than each team takes turns throwing their cylinders at small blocks of wood. but you can't hit the big giant king block in the middle or you automatically lose.
there's a lot more skill and strategy involved but i don't know how else to describe it. ha.
the Brother-in-laws TOTALLY dominated!!
It's a really fun game because pretty much ANYone can play, and it can be super chill or really intense. it totally depends on the members of each team. but either way is awesome! The round i played on a team with my brother in law Phillip and my cousin, Chase against my sister Rebecca, her husband Eric and our little cousin Peter, both teams were neck and neck and then when it was my turn to place a block, i knocked over the king pen and uhmm, we lost. SHAME. shame like i have never experienced, guys.
Me and my stud cousin Chase spent the afternoon stealing barely frozen otter pops from the freezer and having our own sort of Olympics while dodging little children with water bombs.
we did a little Frisbee tossing, but uhmm, i'm terrible with frisbees. so i talked him into swiping a few hula hoops from little cousins.
the hula hoops were toddler sized...so they didn't remotely work for us. but it was fun to make fools of ourselves. especially because we couldn't stop laughing long enough to actually focus on moving the things.
naturally, Katelyn and Natalie were running rampant and could barely hold still long enough for me to snag a cute picture of them while Whitney continued to avoid the camera.
so we all just sat and talked and laughed at Owen rolling around and ooohed over fossil rocks until it was time for the Family History movie
turns out, in the early 70s my great aunt recorded her father, my great Grandpa Hansen on cassette tape talking about his life. My Uncle (uhmm, cousin? He's my Dad's Cousin, but i still call him uncle steve.) Steve put together a bunch of pictures to correspond with what he was talking about and he cut the audio together so we could hear all about his young life - in his own voice!
It was so so cool!! what a sweet experience for all of us! It was cute to see my Dad so intently listening to his Grandpa telling stories.
that night I laid contently in our old little drafty tent snuggled up to sweet little bug Natalie and i fell asleep with a great big smile on my face.
Hiko is so good, guys.
Family is so good.
